Our customers are often grandparents. Many are reading on a phone, in a hurry, without their glasses. So accessibility here is not a box we tick — it is most of our audience.
What we aim for
We work towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and go past it where it matters for older readers.
- Body text is at least 19px everywhere, not the 14–16px common on retail sites
- Contrast targets 7:1 for body text rather than the 4.5:1 minimum, because contrast sensitivity declines with age
- Primary buttons are around 20mm tall — larger than the WCAG maximum of 44px, which research on older users shows is still too small
- No carousels that move on their own, no auto-playing video, no countdown timers
- Labels sit above form fields and stay visible when you type
- Guest checkout, no account required, and no CAPTCHA
- No session timeouts while you are personalising a book
- The page reflows without horizontal scrolling at 400% zoom
Where we fall short
We would rather name these than claim we are perfect.
[KNOWN GAPS — fill in after an audit. Likely candidates: third-party checkout and payment widgets we do not control; PDF previews; any embedded review widget.]
Our legal position
We sell worldwide, and the accessibility laws that apply to us — the European Accessibility Act, the UK Equality Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and their equivalents elsewhere — all point at the same technical benchmark: WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is what we build to.
The European Accessibility Act exempts microenterprises, meaning fewer than 10 staff and turnover at or under €2 million. We currently qualify. We are working to the standard anyway, because being exempt somewhere is not a reason to be unusable, and most of our customers are at an age where this matters regardless of what any law requires.
Tell us
If something on this site is hard to use, email info@prestigeamsterdam.com and describe what happened. We will fix it and write back to tell you when we have. If you cannot complete an order because of an accessibility problem, tell us and we will take the order by email or phone instead.
